SEDEX - ETHICAL SUPPLY CHAIN

Your Safety Factory is committed to ensuring that its products are sourced from an ethical supply chain, and utilise the services of Sedex, Amfori and Intertek to ensure they are held to this high standard.

Sedex (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange) is one of the world’s leading ethical trade membership organisations, working with business to improve working conditions in global supply chains.

Sedex provides an online platform, tools, and services to help businesses operate responsibly and sustainably, protect workers and source ethically.

Over 60,000 member organisations from over 180 countries use the Sedex platform to exchange data, manage business risk, meet compliance, and drive positive impact for people.

SMETA (the Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) is the most widely used social audit in the world. SMETA is Sedex’s social auditing methodology, enabling businesses to access their sites and suppliers in order to understand working conditions in their supply chain, standards of labour, health and safety, environmental performance, and ethics.

When your supplier is a registered Sedex member, you know that they have acted responsibly to ensure that their products meet ethical sourcing guidelines. This allows you peace of mind that they are able to proactively uncover and mitigate risks within their supply chain; stay ahead of current and upcoming legislation; track and share data with stakeholders; and prevent sustainability issues from negatively impacting your business.

What Is Social Auditing?

A social audit is one of the best ways to understand the working conditions at a supplier site.

During a social audit, an auditor physically attends the site in question, enabling the auditor to assess the conditions on the ground.

Social audits enable businesses to assess their suppliers, monitor health and safety for workers, with zero tolerance of human rights abuses such as child and forced labour. Once an audit is complete, buyer and supplier businesses can work together to address any issues based on a Corrective Action Plan (CAPR).

SMETA assesses a site based on their organisation’s standards of labour, health and safety, environment, management systems, entitlement to work, subcontracting and business ethics. Sedex believes these are the key areas for assessing an organisations business practices and meeting social compliance.

Intertek and Amfori BSCI partner with Sedex to complete SMETA audits at supplier sites.
